Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources General Directorate of Nuclear Energy and International Projects Head  of Nuclear Infrastructure Development Department Salih Sarı stated that with the commissioning of Akkuyu NPP, which will provide uninterrupted energy, 35 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year will be prevented.

Speaking about the project, Akkuyu Nuclear AŞ Production and Construction Organization Director Denis Sezemin said, “Akkuyu NGS will consist of 4 power units with 3+ generation VVER-1200 type reactors, and the total electrical power of the power plant will be 4800 MW. After the commissioning of all four units, Akkuyu NPP will be able to meet up to 10 percent of the total electricity need of the Republic of Turkey.”

Noting that the total cost of the project is approximately 20 billion dollars, Sezemin said: “The estimated contribution of the project to Turkey's GDP over the entire life cycle of the NPP will be approximately $50 billion. Infrastructure and job creation will provide conditions for the growth of the region's population of up to 30 thousand people.”
